International Travel Manager
A former American basketball player, Tom was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA. He later played professional basketball for teams in Sweden, Holland, France, and Switzerland. The international competitions took him to countries like Finland, Russia, Poland, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, England, and Belgium. Through personal travel he has visited Greece, Malta, Croatia, The Maledives and Gibraltar. Not so difficult when you live in Europe for 43 years! During this time, Tom traveled and guided groups back and forth between the USA and Europe. He also worked for many years in marketing communications for multinational firms like Philips, Alstom, and Roche and as a copywriter for several advertising agencies in The Netherlands. Along the way, he learned to speak German, French, Dutch and is currently studying Italian.
“I have always enjoyed seeing dynamic bonds that form when people travel and discover new destinations together. Nazlah and I are both fully engaged in this venture to uncover the hidden Black history that exists around the world. Nazlah’s enthusiasm and dedication to learning and discovering new horizons are very inspiring!”
USA Travel Manager
Nazlah joined Black Horizons Travel in 2018 to assist with logistics and research to provide travelers with information about people of African descent, around the globe. She believes that travelling is an excellent way to become informed and that knowing our past allows an understanding of our present.
Born and reared in Harlem, NY, a former US Army Reservist and researcher, Nazlah traced her maternal family back to the 1780’s in New Jersey. Her paternal ancestry was traced to West Africa. During the early 90’s, she spent three months in Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Senegal, and Togo. In 2010, Nazlah founded a non-profit, Gift Children Books, Inc., to help children build free home libraries.

An Unrivaled Experience!
“There was so much that was wonderful. The selection of cities was great! The restaurant choices were great Especially Paris and Milan. The best thing was probably the overall premise to meet, know, and experience black people and history in each city (except Venice). Amsterdam and London were the best in that area although Lionel and Tom did a good job supporting a good black experience in Paris. The plan for Switzerland was also a good idea despite the delays we encountered because of Nazlah’s stolen passport. It was a good way to spend a day sightseeing in a city without having to pack up again. I also really appreciate the effort by the coordinators to keep people happy, safe, and supported. You did a fabulous job, particularly for a first effort.”
